Pimping my chest freezer

I have had the ugliest chest freezer for the longest time and honestly it never bothered me as in our previous house it lived in the garage. Since we moved, the ugly duckling has been moved into my kitchen. What an eye sore. It was time to PIMP my freezer.

Some Wall paper (Builders Express has a lovely selection), Some Wood Glue because normal wall paper glue won’t do, a Stanley knife and help from my Man - WALLA

DOH!!! I did it again, waited and waited and now realise that I only have 11 days before Christmas and I still have not done an advent calendar for the kids. Once again, I'm going to rely on Jordan from http://polkadotprintsstudio.blogspot.com/ to bail me out. I used this exact free printable last year and it worked a treat. I got the kids to cut them out, helped stick them together and topped them up with our favourite favourites.

Things have been quiet from my side but I have a valid excuse......EXAM's.

Now that the studying is over I'd really like to share with everyone the amazing and humbling spread I saw in the Elle Decor mag. The jist and I'm not going to share all of the info, is an "article" of sort's on Japan before the destruction with a generous donation to assist in re-building this amazing country.

This initiative, driven by Liezel Strauss's "My Japan" project is truly inspiring.

I received an e-mail from my sister Nikki who mentioned that this is something i just have to add to my blog.... This idea was spotted from Real Simple (which I don’t think is still in circulation in SA) but a clever idea non the less.

"If you’re like me and don’t like throwing ribbon away (years of pretty ribbons from holiday and birthday gifts over here), then you might have, say, a box full of gorgeous but wrinkly ribbon stashed away somewhere. I’ve thought about having an “iron my ribbon” afternoon, where I break out the iron and ironing board, but using a flat iron as a ribbon smoother would be so much easier"

I couldn’t believe my eyes or my ears.... I challenged the guy and his wife..... I told them they giving little gems away for nothing.... BUT they would not hear of it and told me they do it for the love of it.

These were 2 lovely folk I met at Hilton who as a hobby look for little treasures in second hand shops and look what i got. The Remington only cost me R60 while the Sewing Machine cost me R80.

Yesterday I woke up with the need to create something or at least start creating something using wool. Yes I let my sewing machine and Wilkinson sword to rest for the day and picked the project I felt I wanted to do for ME... Considering how "Brrrrrr" it’s been, it was obvious, a granny square throw it would be.

This led me thinking of whether crocheting is a dying art and are we doing what we can to keep it alive. But first for some history:-
Little is known of crochet's early history. It seems likely that the earliest crochet was made using fingers, rather than the hooks used today. There are theories that crochet could have existed as early as 1500 BC, as part of nun's work, which included needlepoint lace and bobbin lace.

What a sweet idea to the traditional placements (I could and still can never get it right).

I've been wanting to do a tutorial for ages now and yesterday afternoon it hit me.... the best tutorial ever for a Mom is a quick and easy way of feeding the ganats. So here we go:-

Need:-
Russian Sausages
Spaghetti
Pot
Water
Kids

Right, cut your sausages into chunks, break spaghetti in half (if you want). Push the spaghetti through the chunks of meat - Looks funny.

Boil for about 5 min in the pot with water and there you have it.

Happy faces all round.

They say you always remember your first love and how true "THEY" are. My little red devil took the abuse of a non licensed driver and sculpted me into an expert on the road - now if everyone could just drive like I do, we wouldn’t have to come up with lamo excuses for why we are late.

1990's BC - The Rift

On the way home from JHB, it struck me that I would really like to do a bit of a "recall" of the years 1990's BC (Before Children). So for the next few day's I'm going to be posting things/stuff about the years that I still talk about, laugh about and sometimes even cry about.

To kick it off I'm paying tribute to the club I spent most of my nocturnal activities, where I could stay up to 4 and still get up for work at 6, day after day after day after day.

You would be brave to venture into this part of "Town" these days - mind you were brave back then too. 80 St Georges Street, being met at the bottom of the stairs by "Alex" (a local street child), flashing your VIP key ring and then being enveloped by 60's 70's Rock, Post Punk and British Invasion, the list goes on......

For me The Rift signified individuality, a place where one could yourself without judgement, criticism or council.....

Years later, there is still a group on peop's who remember and transform us back - Thanks for the Reunions.

I know I've been rather quiet, but I'm thinking I have a valid reason..... The move to a new company was way more intense than I expected. But now I can happily say that I am well and truly classified, tagged and beaten into corporate submission.

Nevertheless, on my first day I receive such a lovely gift that I had to share it.... It kinda reminds me of the "Grim Reaper/Death" in Terry Pratchetts books. I just want a whole bookshelf of these:-

Recently I was given a box of button's bought at an auction and was over whelmed (firstly by the dust) but once I got used to that, the button's that were in this box was like taking a trip back in years. I sifted through the buttons and took the ones that best suite me and handed the box over to Nadia from http://lovecupcakecouture.blogspot.com/ she has now taken her stash and is packaging the rest for the SPCA in Kloof..... How great is that. (sorry Nadia, I'm really punting you - hmmm I sound like a stalker)

So my message I guess is to give, give & give some more. If you cant use stuff hand it over to those that can.

I just happened to have been given, a really old wooden box that was bought at an auction, full of buttons. I dived deep into the dust and found the buttons that I liked and suited what I'm all about but there were quite a few left over. The dude behind Freedom Café is Neil Roake, author of cookbooks such as Life's a Beach Cottage and Shiny Happy People. I'm told its a quirky little restaurant, tucked away down a side street in Greyville. Enjoy a meal in a bright red converted shipping container.
